New certification received for Legacy 600/650 and Airbus A319
Lyngby, Denmark | June 16, 2015– Cobham SATCOM has increased its portfolio of Supplemental Type Certificates (STCs) allowing installation of its AVIATOR SwiftBroadband solutions aboard various airframes.

New STCs have been received for Cobham’s AVIATOR SP (Special Purpose) system consisting of the SDU-7330-00X (Satellite Data Unit) on the Embraer Legacy 600 and 650 executive jets for multi-channel SwiftBroadband and also on the Airbus A319 for single channel or multi-channel SwiftBroadband with Cobham’s HGA-7001 high gain antenna.

The STCs were development in conjunction with joint holders 328design and Alamo.

Cobham’s AVIATOR 200 SwiftBroadband solution has a European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for its use aboard Pilatus PC-12 aircraft, in addition to an FAA STC aboard King Air models.

The Cobham AVIATOR systems have also been certified for several key aircraft including the Boeing 757, a range of Cessna aircraft, the Citation X, G200, Embraer 135 (Legacy 600/650) and Bombardier Challenger 300.

Kim Gram, VP Aeronautical, Cobham SATCOM, said: “We are pleased to continue developing STCs for installation on a growing number of airframes, enabling more users to take advantage of modern in-flight communications with the use of smart phones, personal tablets and laptops for a multitude of applications during all phases of flight.”

The full Cobham SATCOM AVIATOR range includes the future revolutionary AVIATOR S series as well as the current AVIATOR 700 and 700D, AVIATOR 350 with High Gain Antenna (HGA), AVIATOR 300 with IGA as well as the exceptionally compact and lightweight AVIATOR 200 with Low Gain Antenna (LGA).

EBACE, Geneva, Switzerland and Lyngby, Denmark | May 24, 2013– On the final day of EBACE, Cobham SATCOM has announced that its AVIATOR 200 SwiftBroadband solution has received a European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for its use aboard Pilatus PC-12 aircraft.

The EASA validation was secured by Cobham SATCOM partner RUAG and includes exclusive rights for the Swiss-based international aerospace and defence technology group to use the STC in Europe. The new certification was developed in cooperation with Cobham SATCOM partner Pro Star Aviation, which carried out successful installation and testing of the AVIATOR 200 on the Pilatus PC-12 to receive the original Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) STC last year.

The EASA STC includes the activation of the AVIATOR 200’s built-in Wi-Fi option, offering access to an extensive range of communication capabilities aboard Pilatus PC-12/45, PC-12/47 and PC-12/47E.

Kevin Harriman, Pro Star Aviation General Manager, commented: “The AVIATOR 200 offers the perfect broadband and voice solution for the PC-12, as it is practical and affordable, and the system is easily installed.”

Cobham’s AVIATOR 200 is an exceptionally compact, lightweight system that offers reliable, affordable connectivity to provide users with a range of services including data, video and voice.

With built-in Wi-Fi capability, the AVIATOR 200 allows aircraft operators to offer wireless connectivity on board, supporting the use of Wi-Fi-enabled devices such as laptops, tablets and smartphones.

Henri Broussalian, Sales Director EMEA for Cobham SATCOM, commented: “The AVIATOR 200 offers in-flight broadband communication to aircraft of virtually any size as it utilizes a low gain antenna.

“Receipt of the PC-12 EASA STC is another key step forward in making the system available to the widest range of aircraft possible, enabling more users to take advantage of modern in-flight communications.”

The AVIATOR 200 is the smallest and lightest system in Cobham SATCOM’s cutting-edge SwiftBroadband product portfolio and utilizes Inmarsat’s SwiftBroadband 200 service. AVIATOR 200 simultaneously provides data speeds of up to 200 kbps and a single AMBE 2 channel for voice calls, providing a complete airborne communications solution previously unavailable to aircraft below a certain size.

The full Cobham SATCOM AVIATOR range includes the AVIATOR 700 and 700D, AVIATOR 350 with High Gain Antenna (HGA) and versatile AVIATOR 300 with Intermediate Gain Antenna (IGA).

AVIATOR 200 System Offers a New Level of Affordability in Satellite-based Connectivity for Business Aircraft

ATLANTA, GA [NBAA Annual Meeting & Convention] – October 18, 2010 – Aircell, the world’s leading provider of inflight connectivity, today announced that shipments are imminent for its new AVIATOR 200 SwiftBroadband solution. With reduced antenna size and increased affordability, this new system makes satellite-based connectivity practical for a whole new segment of the industry, including light jets and turboprops.

Originally announced at EBACE 2010, the new AVIATOR 200 pairs the proven, lightweight avionics equipment found in existing SwiftBroadband solutions with a small, low-gain satcom antenna. The result is a reduction in overall system size and weight as well as the cost and complexity of aircraft modifications. Aircell’s SwiftBroadband solutions are powered by Thrane & Thrane.

With the AVIATOR 200 equipment package and newly-launched SwiftBroadband 200 service from Inmarsat, operators can seamlessly use their personal laptops and mobile devices for e-mail and light Internet services at up to 200 kbps with coverage virtually anywhere in the world. They can also use the system’s integrated cabin handsets to make and receive voice calls.

“The SwiftBroadband service continues to set the standard for affordable, global connectivity,” said John Wade, Aircell’s Executive Vice President and General Manager. “The AVIATOR 200 is a great new option for aircraft that operate regionally and don’t require the higher bandwidth offered by other SwiftBroadband systems. The small antenna is a big part of this new system – since it’s about the size of a VHF antenna, it allows for straightforward installation. We’re very pleased to offer the system to the business aviation market.”

Here is a summary of Aircell’s two SwiftBroadband solutions, both of which operate over the newest generation of satellite technology from Inmarsat:

AVIATOR 200 (new). Offers voice service and data connectivity at up to 200 kbps in multiple world regions. Incorporates a small, low-gain antenna (LGA). System weight is approximately 13 lbs. Equipment cost is approximately $55,000, which excludes installation and varies according to selected options and other factors.

AVIATOR 300. Offers voice service and data connectivity at up to 332 kbps on a near-global basis. Incorporates an intermediate-gain antenna. Total system weight is approximately 17 lbs. Equipment cost is approximately $95,000, which excludes installation and varies according to selected options and other factors.

Through a comprehensive product portfolio, Aircell offers one of the industry’s largest selections of network services – including Iridium Satellite, Inmarsat SwiftBroadband and Gogo Biz™ Inflight Internet. These services span multiple technologies, including air-to-ground, low-earth orbit satellite and geostationary satellite. All Aircell products are available through the Company’s worldwide dealer and distributor network.

Aircell is displaying its complete family of airborne communications systems this week in Booth 3737 at the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) annual meeting & convention in Atlanta.
